Objective

After studying this course student
- understands health promotion and functional capacity and its importance among older people
- understands the values and ethical principles in Gerontological Nursing
- understands the basics of research and technology in ageing, the link between health and functional capacity and nursing of the physically challenged
- understands the importance of multi cultural and multi disciplinary nursing in ageing

Content

Multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary and caring of the physically challenged among older people as well as aging changes. Medication for the elderly, pain and geriatric evaluation and rehabilitation. Health and functional capacities, illnesses of the aged, memory disorders, fragility and decrepity syndrome. Gerontological research, population ageing, population pyramid, home nursing, loneliness, memory life-process and brain ageing, nutrition, chronic wound care and special issues in gerontological nursing and terminal care. Values and attitudes towards ageing and the environment. Pre-home visits. Ageing of the population and its social and economic consequences. Biological ageing theories, physical activity and ageing, illness diseases of elderly people, prevention, cure, and rehabilitation of these diseases.

Teaching methods

Online- and contact studies.
Flipped-learning: Preparing yourself for the contact lessons by Moodle-learning environment and learning assignments.
Independent studying and group work.
