Objective

The student understands the central concepts and definitions of tourism, the global and national development of tourism, the benefits, disadvantages and factors of attraction in tourism, factors affecting the future of tourism as a cultural phenomenon. The student also knows the most important concepts and definitions within the field of tourism, can see the assets for tourism in Finland and abroad, and is aware of tourism parametres and knows their importance. The student writes an essay and a summary relating to a topic of tourism and gets acquainted with working in groups. Additionally, the student practises performing and negotiating.

Content

Definitions and conceptsof tourism, history and present state of tourism in Finland and in the whole world, benefits and disadvantages of tourism, factors of attraction in tourism, future of tourism. Tourism as a multiform socio-cultural and economic phenomenon.
