Objective

You can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases. You can ask and answer to basic questions. You are able to tell about yourself and use polite phrases and greetings in everyday situations, e.g. meeting friends, asking about the price and ordering. You learn the basic facts about the Finnish culture and customs.

Content

- Finnish alphabet, consonants, vowels and diphthongs
- Pronunciation
- Sharing personal information: e.g. name, nationality, language skills, family, hobbies, studies
- Numbers and expressions of time
- Basic grammar: e.g. conjugation of basic verbs, partitive case, polar questions and common interrogatives
- Basic facts about the Finnish culture

Materials

Materials are provided by the teacher. Moodle-enviroment is used.

The course includes contact teaching and independent study.

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation is based on regular attendance (required 70 %), active participation during the lessons, completion of home assignments, vocabulary tests and the final exam.
